Single-handed around the world on production boats.

The Global Solo Challenge 2023-24 (GSC) is a single handed non-stop round the world yachting event with no outside assistance permitted.

ROUTE

The GSC is around the world east about. The start and finish lines will be set in the proximity of the Canaries. Entrants must leave “The Antarctic Region” to starboard and the three Great Capes to port before making their way to the finish line. The Antarctic Region will be defined in the sailing instructions.

AGE ENTRY REQUIREMENT FOR THE SKIPPER

Applicants must be 18 years of age or older by the event start date.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE BOAT

  • Production boats built prior to ~2005 preferably with a minimum series of 20 units;
  • LOA between ~ 35 and 50ft;
  • IRC rating below ~1.25;
  • Minimum displacement of ~ 5500kgs (may vary for some designs);
  • Minimum dipl./loa ratio of between ~ 150 and 250 (may vary for some designs);

Boats not meeting the above criteria may still apply and may be accepted at the sole discretion of the organisers. Please consult the boat designs page for further information and analysis. Boats must be original, unmodified models. Parameters are set to create a fleet of homogeneous boats, the entry parameters are no indication whatsoever of the safety or suitability of any given boat to undertake the proposed navigation. Such consideration is the sole responsibility of the person in charge.
