Yacht Review - A35
ARCHAMBAULT A35 - Transquadra
Brief Description.
The A35 was designed for racing first and foremost and is optimised for the IRC rating rules.
Vacuum infused sandwich PVC hull, infusion moulded deck. Structural inner mould, the A35 benefits from the latest manufacturing techniques.
The Transquadra version is customised for Shorthanded Sailing.
The Transquadra version has 10 unique features for shorthanded sailing.
1.
Transquadra Console - the German main sail system is replaced with a central console which has the main sheeting point on top of it and on each side continuous ropes for adjusting the backstay, main track and main sheet fine tuning.
2.
Carbon Tiller- allowing access to all ropes and instruments while holding the tiller. The tiller also has two extensions, the one shown and a special grip for sailing down wind.
3.
Twin Rudders – Twin rudders have an advantage for shorthanded sailors in that they will actually be immersed further with heel. As a result of this immersion twin aft rudders typically have more rudder control with increasing heel angle.
4.
Rear Hatch - moved further back to accommodate life raft storage on deck. Hatch gives excellent access to the steering system and gives easy access to fenders etc prior to docking.
5.
NKE Auto Pilot – including steering by True Wind and safety function where the system will go head to wind if remote is more than 50 meters from the boat.
6.
Control Lines - all lead aft and accessible while holding the tiller.
7.
On-deck Chart Plotter – (with AIS linked in) essential for safety, peace of mind and navigation.
8.
VHF – ICOM Commandmic on deck for clear, quick and safe communication.
9.
Remote Controls – one for the Auto Pilot and one for changing data displayed on 5 separate screens.
10.
Jib Hanks – for rapid hosting and dropping of the Jib.
Other Specific Features
Sails – Mixture of Star Sails and North.
Heavy and Light #2 and heavy weather Jib.
Four Spinnakers.
· 2 Symmetric - one flown from the mast head and one fractional kite for heavier weather.
