RIOW re-run 18th September 2011
On the 18th September 2011 the Solo Offshore Racing Club will re run its annual round the Island Race RIOW, (the first attempt ran out of wind during our brief summer back in April). The quality line up contains four previous winners and some other likely contenders. Previous winners include; 2010 Stephen Thomas - Truant, 2009 Peter Newlands - Anticipation, 2008 Noj White - SX Girl and 2007 Peter Olden - Solan Goose, all wanting a second taste of success. Simon Curwen, yet to claim this trophy, has Voador J105 back from daughter Nikki's grasp for the race and the three big boats in the fleet J122's Jbellino - Rob Craigie and Oojah - Peter Tanner plus Chris Rustom with Stewart 37 Ding Dong will always be serious contenders if conditions oblige. Three Sunfast 3200's are entered - Nigel Colley's Fastrack VIII will aim to be the pace setter while Simon Mitchell's Roxanne and Steve Dyke's Ingwe will be also hoping for a windy reach to show off their twin rudders advantage. Further down the field Charles Emmett, fresh from a brilliant second in the double handed 2011 Fastnet, on Sigma 36 British Beagle, Chris Flewitt on Contessa 28 Tringa, Herve Dupriez on Penrod 31.7, Mike Saqui on Edith Elan333 and Martin Biggs on Beneteau 32 Blustery Day have all produced podium results in recent Solo races. If the wind goes light for a bit we all know jet pilot Richard Breese's Sonata Impro with an IRC rating 0.810 could well be the one to lift the Anticipation Cup !
Berthing at Cowes Yacht Haven, supper at The Anchor on Saturday night before the race - details with entry.
