Key Speakers.
This unique event brings together sailors from all the disciplines in singlehanded racing, from the Mini Transat, Ostar, la Route du Rhum, Figaro, Global Ocean Race through to the circum-navigators in IMOCA 60, all united in their desire to race across the oceans.
Single-handers are nevertheless very sociable and there will be plenty of scope for networking and catching up, starting with coffee at registration, a hot buffet lunch and afternoon tea is included.
The Festival has moved to a new venue in Hamble to accommodate the growing numbers of Solo Racing enthusiasts attending this unique event. Registration commences at 10.00 am followed by the first presentation at 10.50 am.
The Boat Show will give delegates the opportunity to view a total of nine boats which have been specifically designed or customised for short handed sailing and includes; Class 40, Figaro 2, Archambault A35, J105, Sunfast 3200 and Mini 6.5.
La Route du Rhum is the biggest solo race in the world and we will hear the designers view from Nigel Irens, his 30 metre trimarans were second and third in the Ultimate class, and the skippers view from our own Marco Nannini in the Class 40 UniCredit.
The Artemis Offshore Academy has made ground breaking strides in the search for the next cohort of solo professionals racing Figaro 2. John Thorn, performance director, will outline his vision for this exciting project.
Serious training is the key to success in solo racing and Sports Psychologist Ian Brown will be outlining the priciples of goal setting and performace optimisation.
We look forward to a busy season, SORC Race Director Peter Olden will outline our race programme. John Lewis from RWYC has exciting news for TransAtlantic race skippers and Oliver Dewar will update the Global Ocean Race that starts in September from Majorca.
Pip Hare Artemis Offshore Academy associate member is training at La Grande Motte for the next Mini Transat and we will get the latest on Pip's progress, we hope also to have Mini on display afloat.
